In 1971 Harrison held the first large scale and historic rock and roll benefit at Madison Square Garden for the people of Bangladesh using sitars and other Indian instruments and of course he had superstars Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Badfinger, Billy Preston and more.
Wonderous Stories, along with a huge band (choir, horn section, sitars & more) will play the entire original concert approximately 1 1/2 hrs and then we call up some national acts who have had hits in the 60’s and 70’s and play some of their hits with them.
One of the great things about this current show is that a portion of the money goes to St Jude Children’s Cancer Hospital!
For 3 years in a row 2007-08 & 09 Wonderous Stories played George Harrison’s “Concert for Bangladesh” in its entirety at BB Kings Club in Manhattan to sold out audiences. We again played the show to standing room audiences in 2011 and 2013 at The Highline Ballroom. Then we played 3 sold out shows in a row 2017-18 &19 at the Space at Westbury. In those years special guests have included members and former members of the Badfinger, Paul McCartney’s Wings, The Young Rascals, Alan Parsons Project, Vanilla Fudge, The Hooters, Zebra, Tower of Power, Ted Nugent, Dire Straits, The Soul Survivors, a great set with Marshal Crenshaw and much more. We have also had people who were behind the scenes at the original 1971 Bangladesh show and special guest promoter Sid Bernstien (Beatles at Shea).
Special guests this year TBA announced and added to the show as it gets closer. We’ve never failed to come through with amazing guests !
This year we play the legendary Tilles Center on the LIU Post campus. The room was built for quality sound which lends itself to the huge sound that Wonderous Stories & friends will provide .
