In the Art League of Long Island’s 8th Annual Photography Competition titled “This Land is Our Land”, photographers and artists from the Tri-State NY area were asked to submit images that illustrate what makes us American. The exhibit is on view in the gallery January 11 through February 7. The art reception and awards presentation is open to the public Wednesday, January 15 from 6pm to 8pm.
Out of 373 entries, 60 works by 50 photographers were selected by exhibition juror Sandra Carrion to be exhibited in the gallery. The juror will also select awards of excellence and honorable mentions after the exhibit has been installed in the gallery. The list of exhibiting artists is posted online at www.artleagueli.org. Sandra Carrion is an Instructor at Nassau Community College. She served as director of Soho Photo Gallery and is the creator of the popular International Krappy Kamera Competition and Exhibition held annually at Soho Photo in Manhattan. Ms. Carrion is also a founding member of fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, NY and 9 East Contemporary Art Guild in Huntington, NY.
Established in 1955, the Art League is a not-for-profit visual arts center whose mission is to provide a forum and showcase for artists of all ages and ability levels, whether through art education in the studios or exhibition opportunities in the gallery and art fairs. Artwork on display in the gallery may be available for purchase.
The Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery is open free of charge Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am – 9pm, and is closed Sundays.
